Status: Absent.

For Lent this year, I decided to give up Facebook.

I really don't miss it at all. Its absence has been as beneficial as I thought it would be, for me. It very easily eats up too much of my time. I love the way it makes communication a breeze, but I hate the way I allow myself to get sucked in and spend more time on there than I should (meaning, any time at all!), when my time could be used in ways that are so much more valuable.

Ironically, I'm blogging more! After taking a Facebook pause, it's like my brain opened up and heaved a sigh of relief. Creativity! Once again! Rather than updating my status throughout the day, I'm focusing on writing about my life. This blog is my journal and every day I've been able to sit down at a designated time, write a post, be done with it and move on with my life. Love it.

On Easter morning, I hope I can step back into Facebook with better perspective. Or just maybe take a smaller step than I usually do. We shall see.

The discipline I have taken up is memorization and I am memorizing 1 Peter 1. God laid this passage on my heart and it has come alive to me in these past few weeks. It's amazing how the absence of distraction and the presence of focus can allow life to be enjoyed in an entirely new dimension. It seems like a deep realization for such a simple concept.

Which, of course, makes me question why it takes something like Lent to get me there in the first place!

Have a lovely day.

  1. You actually inspired me to give up Facebook as well. The second I saw your update that you were giving it up for Lent, it was like this instant conviction that I couldn't get out of my head! It has been such a refreshing break, but I'm also a bit embarrassed to admit how painful it was for me to let it go!

  2. We just finished watching "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy (as you know...since we borrowed it from you and all...), and I think my iPhone is "my preciousssssss"...! I'm addicted to the power. ;) I've missed both of you girls on FB, but I totally respect the break. Yay for blogging still!

  3. I just love hearing your perspective on things!! Maybe one day I can blog as faithfully as you. (But the reality of that is unlikely!) :) I love that you do such a fabulous job updating! I gave up reading. Which was HUGE for me--but has given me a fresh, wonderful perspective as well.
